Sheep Thoughts

Love Poem of a Sheep

Only two things
cause my heart
to bleat wildly:
an approaching dog
and ewe.

The Sheep’s Prayer

O Great Shepherd!
Give us the graze
we need each day.
Let the grass be green
on our side, too.
We count on you
to bring us to sleep
in sweet pastures.
Help us avoid wolves:
those dressed as sheep
and those dressed as wolves.
May our lambs be gentle
and ewe
be blessed
forever.
Baa-men.

Finding a Bug on the Stair

Going down…
A sudden stop!
That thing on the step—
I think it hopped!

It’s strange and striped,
gray and white.
What if it’s poisonous?
What if it bites?

What if it flies?
What if it stings?
It looks as though
it might have wings!

Dear, bring the swatter!
Please come and deal
with this thing!
It makes me squeal!

Honestly
I’ve never seen
Such a weird bug!
I’ll dare to lean…

…a little closer…
…my stomach quakes…
I’m holding my breath…

Oh! My mistake.

It’s just a bean.
